Wood structure of Semecarpus kathalekanensis Dasappa & Swaminath, a new species identified recently from Southern India, is described in detail. Wood is greyish yellow, moderately hard, light in weight, coarse textured and straight and silver grained. It is a diffuse porous wood with indistinct growth rings. Vessels are large with simple perforation and large intervessel pitting. Parenchyma is paratracheal with no crystals and fibres are thin walled and rarely septate. Rays are 1-3 seriate and heterocellular. The wood structure resembles with Semecarpus anacardium and Semecarpus travancorica but for the rare occurrence of septate fibres.- Effect of Aging on Andrographolide Content in Andrographis paniculata

Objective: The experiment was conducted to know the effect of aging on andrographolide content in Andrographis paniculata (Kalmegh) to establish the best harvesting time. Materials and method: The growth and yield parameters were studied at 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days after sowing. The andrographolide content was estimated by HPLC method. Results and conclusion: The best harvesting time was observed at 120 days after sowing to get higher biomass containing maximum andrographolide content.Keywords

Mahalanobis D2 statistics was used to study the genetic divergence for 19 characters among 48 genotypes of Indian bean. Genotypes were grouped in to eight clusters on the basis of relative magnitude of D2 values. The highest number of genotypes (14) appeared in cluster III. The maximum inter cluster distance was observed between cluster IV and cluster VI followed by cluster IV and VIII. The minimum inter cluster distance was observed between cluster I and cluster IV. Maximum intra cluster distance was in cluster V followed by cluster III. The mean value for most of the traits was highest in cluster VIII. Among the yield contributing characters, the maximum contribution towards divergence was made by protein content followed by number of flowers per inflorescence, pod length and number of pods per plant. Hybridization between cluster IV and VI could be utilized for getting the superior recombinants or transgress segregants in segregating generations.Keywords

Six cerium(III) nitrate complexes with variously substituted 2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-one thiosemicarbazones have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, molar conductance, IR, magnetic, cyclic voltammetric and thermal studies. Generally, cerium(III) may be easily converted to cerium(IV). In order to ascertain the oxidation state of the cerium in the prepared complexes, the cyclic voltammetric studies have been carried out. It has been observed that increase of potential produces an anodic peak in both the complexes. This indicates that the complexes are getting oxidized which consequently means that they were in the reduced form initially. Thus it is confirmed that cerium is present in +3 oxidation state in its complexes. This is further supported by the studies on concentration effect and sweep rate. Based on the above observations, 10-coordinated structure has been proposed for the complexes.Keywords

In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing interest in deploying wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for real-life applications. Object-tracking sensor network (OTSN)-based applications are widely viewed as being among the most interesting applications of WSNs. OTSN is mainly used to track certain objects in a monitored area and to report their location to the application’s users. However, OTSNs are well known for their energy consumption when compared with other WSN applications. In this paper, we propose a prediction based tracking technique using sequential patterns (PTSPs) designed to achieve significant reductions in the energy dissipated by the OTSNs while maintaining acceptable missing rate levels. PTSP outperforms all the other basic tracking techniques and exhibits significant amounts of savings in terms of the entire network’s energy consumption.Keywords

Methods/Statistical Analysis: The integrated search system has the need of improving search accuracy and expanding their coverage of search. This can be done using concepts of semantic analysis. Findings: In this paper an integrated system is formulated by accumulating multiple sources such as local storage, secondary storage and online repositories. The keyword is contextually interpreted by making use of ontologies, using this interpretation of the keyword the required multimedia or/and textual data is searched as intended by the user. Objective: There is a need for a distributed data storage mechanism to reduce the probability of data loss and cope with node failure as well. The increase in amount of data generated in the wireless sensor network necessitates an innetwork data aggregation protocol that creates summaries of data as information is disseminated in the network. Methods: An effervescent aggregation technique has been formulated that makes use of the existing data redundancy in the dissemination-based network and combines it with consistency checks to filter false aggregate information. A greedy approach is formulated to keep the copies of the data in the nearby neighbour who has greater capacity. Findings: Architecture designed for in-network aggregation helps in dealing with a large amount of data by eliminating redundant information and at the same time distributes the aggregate information in the nearby node since dissemination deals with memory shortage and node failure. Applications: The benefits of the system include that the redundant copies are maintained in some other nodes which has higher memory and power this may, in turn, increase the reliability of the data in nodes of sensor networks and the availability is ensured during the communication with sinks.Keywords

Objectives: The stock market performance has more impact on national economy. The purpose of this work is to generate a portfolio to reduce the uncertainty of stock in short term basis. Methods: Hierarchical clustering is more efficient while non-determinism is of concern when compared with flat clustering. Hierarchical agglomerative Clustering is used, which results in more informative structure than flat clustering on unstructured data. Single-link clustering is taken into account as it does not pays more attention to outliers and amalgamation criterion is local than complete-link clustering and results in intuitive cluster structure. Dendrogram is used to represent the progressive formation of clusters in HAC. Findings: Flat clustering K-means algorithm is used to combine the clusters generated by Hierarchical agglomerative clustering (HAC). As the number of samples has been reduced, iterative use of k-means will choose better centroid. Applications: The final list of the recommended stocks is then showcased to the investor on short term basis. The baseline data is downloaded from National Stock Exchange (NSE).Keywords

The present investigation was conducted to find out the Correlation and Path coefficient effects in okra to identifying the desirable combiners. The experiment comprising 60 hybrids obtain by crossing using 19 parents (four lines viz., Arka Anamika, Arka Abhay, Parbhanikranthi, Varsha uphar and fifteen testers viz., IC-332453, IC-433640, IC-326893, IC-332454, IC-433672, IC-433670, IC-328942, IC-433690, IC-433673, IC-33102 , IC-433695, IC-331067, IC-433675, IC-433645 and IC-331217. The observation was recorded on plant height, days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, the node at which first flower appears, number of branches per plant, number of fruits per plant, length of the fruit, the diameter of the fruit, ten pods weight, fruit yield per plant, fruit yield per hectare, the node at which mosaic disease appears and days of first mosaic symptom appear were worked out through line x tester analysis. All the hybrids along with their parents were grown in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications at Student farm, college of Horticulture, Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, AndhraPradesh, India during Kharif-2009 and Spring Summer-2010. Results pertaining that, fruit yield per plant showed highly significant positive association with a number of branches per plant and number of fruits per plant at phenotypic and genotypic levels in F1s. The path coefficient analysis was done to determine the direct and indirect effects on fruit yield per plant viz., plant height, days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, the node at which first flower appears, number of branches per plant, number of fruits per plant, length of the fruit, the diameter of the fruit, ten pods weight, the node at which mosaic disease appears and days of first mosaic symptom appear.

To analyse the domestic consumption pattern of vegetable oils, ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad, undertook an online survey through Google forms. The survey aimed at generating estimates of average household monthly per capita consumption of vegetable oils, distribution based on urban or rural households, average consumption by income groups, most preferred type of oil and brand by consumers, crop-wise percentage of consumers, food habits and consumption of the same oil or multiple oils throughout the year. Results indicated that rural households consumed 15.6 kg of oil per person per annum, whereas urban households consumed 12.4 kg. Non-vegetarians (64%) consumed 14.2 kg of oil per person per annum, whereas vegetarians (36%) consumed 12.6 kg. Mustard oil was most preferred in the north (61%) and east (35%) zones of India, followed by sunflower oil. About 28% of people in the west zone consumed soybean oil, followed by mustard oil (25%) and sunflower (25%) oil. Sunflower oil (44%) was the most popular oil in the southern zone, followed by groundnut oil (29%). Total per capita consumption of oil, including other purposes, was 14.43 kg per annumKeywords

Sesame phyllody disease is of serious concern in many sesame-growing areas. It significantly diminishes crop production, especially in warm environments causing up to 80% yield loss. We observed various symptoms of phyllody disease, viz. flowery phyllody, virescence, flower bud proliferation, ovivipary and cracking of seed capsules. Orosius albicinctus (Distant) was identified as the vector of sesame phyllody. Sesame phyllody phytoplasma 16SrI strain sequences of India, Egypt and Thailand were associated in one group; 16SrII strains were grouped separately, comprising sequences from India, Iran, Taiwan, Turkey and Oman. 16SrIX stains of Iran (MW27256, KF774193 and MW272565) and Turkey (KC139791) sequences were clearly distinguished from the phylogenetic tree. This result clearly shows the presence of different sesame phyllody phytoplasma strains and diversity in the Indian subcontinent. Sesame phytoplasma was effectively transmitted to the healthy plants from infected plants of sesame through O. albicinctus, grafting and dodder. The most sustainable and viable alternative for managing sesame phyllody can be an integrated strategy by combining cultural, host plant resistance, biological, physical and chemical methods. Sesame phyllody has become a potential threat to sesame cultivation. Hence, it is necessary to take steps to reduce its further spread. In this article, extensive details on distribution, taxonomy, symptomatology, etiology, transmission, molecular characterization, genetic diversity, host plant resistance and management methods on phytoplasma infecting sesame are provided.Keywords
